Ivo Karlović @ $1.41 – I think Karlović will be too strong for Yen-Hsun Lu. Karlović has been in good form in recent months having won 2 ATP tour titles since Wimbledon.
Gilles Simon @ $1.69 – Should be a decent match-up against Štěpánek but I think Simon will be too good and progress to the 2nd round.
Venus Williams @ $1.20 – Venus should account for 93rd ranked Kateryna Kozlova.
Eugenie Bouchard @ $1.28 – Bouchard, who has never lost a 1st round match at Flushing Meadows, should account for 72nd ranked Katerina Siniakova.
Worth a Punt
Íñigo Cervantes @ $9.50 – On paper Grigor Dimitrov shouldn’t have too much trouble against Cervantes but his form has been a bit dodgey this year. Whilst this is a match Dimitrov should win, I feel his odds are far too short and Cervantes could be worth a small punt at $9.50.
Janko Tipsarević @ $4.60 – Tipsarević is a very talented and former top 10 ranked player. Whilst he is returning from an extended injury layoff, this is a big danger game for Sam Querrey and I see a bit of value for Janko.
Fernando Verdasco @ $3.56 – A very tough first-up match for number 3 seed Stan Wawrinka. Verdasco has proven to be a handful for some of the top players in the majors so far this year. He defeated Nadal in the 1st round at the Australian Open and pushed both Nishikori and Tomic to 5 sets at the French Open and Wimbledon respectively. Not without a chance here against Stan.
Alexandr Dolgopolov @ $3.31 – David Ferrer definitely the more consistent player of these two, but Dolgopolov has the ability to do the remarkable from time-to-time. Note that he defeated Ferrer in straight sets at the Mexican Open this year.
Lucie Šafářová @ $2.11 – Interestingly is the outsider odds wise against Daria Gavrilova. Šafářová is a former grand slam finalist and ranked higher than Gavrilova.
