Browny’s Tips – Wimbledon Day 1

Each day during the grand slams I’ll share my tips for the matches scheduled that day. Tips will be categorised as either ‘Safe Bets’ or ‘Worth a Punt’. As a general rule I won’t include any players with odds of less than $1.10.

Safe Bets

Kevin Anderson @ $1.25 – Anderson should account for Denis Istomin on grass.

Sergiy Stakhovsky @ $1.20 – Famously beat Federer in the 2nd round here a few  years ago and should defeat Yoshihito Nishioka who’s making his Wimbledon debut.

Garbiñe Muguruza @ $1.23 – Should account for Camila Giorgi. Good odds for a number 2 seed in the first round of a major.

Sabine Lisicki @ $1.31 – Was the finalist at Wimbledon in 2013 and should get the win agianst Shelby Rogers first up.

Worth a Punt

Sam Groth @ $10.50 – Grass is comfortably Sam’s favourite surface. Danger game for Kei Nishikori first up, particularly with Groth’s massive serve.

Lukáš Rosol @ $4.25 – Good value here against Sam Querrey. Rosol beat Nadal at Wimbledon a few years back and doesn’t mind playing on grass.

Paolo Lorenzi @ $5.40 – Wouldn’t usually bet on Lorenzi on grass but these odds are very generous considering his opponent Lukáš Lacko is ranked 124, almost 80 spots below him. It’s risky but they are big odds.

Laura Robson @ $11 – Is playing the world number 4 in Angelique Kerber but she is in front of her home crowd at a tournament she has had good results at in the past. These odds seem very long and it could be worth a small punt.
